HACIENDA LA PUENTE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ESTABLISHES WEBPAGE TO INFORM RESIDENTS ON PROPOSED WEDGEWORTH K-8 SCHOOL PROJECT

Historical Documents, Q&A, News Clippings, and Other Documents Pertaining to the September 14 and 18 Community Meetings Can Be Viewed at www.hlpschools.org/wsp

City of Industry, CA (October 24, 2019) A new page has been created on the District’s website specifically focused on the proposed Wedgeworth K-8 school project to help all community members and interested stakeholders to learn more about a permanent school project that has been in development for over 50 years.

The Hacienda La Puente Unified School District acquired the Wedgeworth property in the late 1960s with the intention to build a permanent school, but declining enrollment and funding shortfalls pushed back the permanent construction of the school. During the last ten years, enrollment has more than doubled at Wedgeworth. The proposed K-8 school would allow for continuity of the Mandarin Dual Immersion program and the Code to the Future program.

The information on the Wedgeworth page includes responses to questions that were received from community members through comment cards submitted at the community information meetings; comment cards redacted to hide personal information from the September 14 and September 18 community meetings at Wedgeworth Elementary School; historical documents dating back to the 1960s; press clippings; and additional historical documents pertaining to the history of the Wedgeworth property.

The school has earned statewide and national recognition and continues to perform at high levels, despite outdated portable structures, limited restroom facilities and no kitchen. The draft EIR is expected to be released this month and the information will also be made available on this site as well as at many public locations.
